HOOD RIVER — A special evening of music is coming to the Gorge. In collaboration with the Bed Barn’s Church of Music, Jeffrey Foucault and Garrett Brennan will headline a dual-set concert in the historic Rockford Grange on Oct. 25.
Two songwriters from opposite coasts, Foucault and Brennan met through their dear friend, Portland-based guitarist Jon Neufeld. Brennan and Neufeld are on first, followed by Foucault and his West Coast touring trio comprising Erik Koskinen and Sam Weber.
Sharing his talents nationwide over the last two decades, Foucault has made a name for himself in American music, refining a sound instantly recognizable for its simplicity and emotional power. On the back of a string of critically acclaimed albums, he’s erected a brick-and-mortar, global touring career and a devoted fanbase — one that includes luminaries like Van Dyke Parks, Greil Marcus and Don Henley.
Foucault’s current West Coast circuit falls in the aftermath of a 2024 album release, “The Universal Fire” — his first album of entirely new material since 2018. “A series of high-voltage performances cut live in one room, the album is both a working wake and a meditation on the nature of beauty, artifact and loss,” said a press release. The record is a tribute to Foucault’s late friend and drummer, Billy Conway, who passed away from cancer in 2021.
“The Universal Fire” sets Conway’s death against the massive 2008 fire at the Universal Studios lot in California that destroyed the master recordings of “some of our bedrock American music, to interrogate ideas about mortality, legacy, meaning and calling,” said a press release.
Brennan, an Oregon-based singer-songwriter and instrumentalist, is known for his intimate, acoustic Americana discography. On the side, he has worked with pigWar, exploring the fringe boundaries of soul and psychedelic rock. Over the years, he has shared the stage with Teddy Presberg, The Foghorn Stringband, Scott Law, Eli West, Tony Furtado, The Hackles, Anna Tivel, Reed Foehl and The Horsenecks. “His live performances are undeniably authentic and raw,” said a press release.
Rockford Grange will open its door at 6 p.m.; music begins at 7 p.m. Tickets and more information are available at givebutter.com/foucault_brennan.
