CASCADE LOCKS — The port’s second Economic Development Grant Program opened at 8 a.m. on Sept. 1, with applications due by noon on Oct. 31.
The program, launched last year, will “provide funding for locally driven projects that align with the goals of the port’s 2024-2029 Strategic Business Plan and demonstrate measurable benefits to the community,” according to a press release. Open to non-profits, businesses, and government agencies, applications should “accelerate local economic development, support public safety measures, and enhance recreation and tourism in Cascade Locks.”
The port will distribute up to $150,000 this year in two categories — Small Grants up to $10,000 and Large Grants $10,001-$50,000.
Projects on “downtown revitalization, tourism and recreation enhancement, and/or public safety improvements” are encouraged to apply. Religious, political, or community sports projects cannot be funded.
Accepted projects must give a minimum 20% match and report on progress and results to the commission.
Mid-Columbia Economic Development District (MCEDD), under contract with the port, will review applications and port commissioners will give final approval in a public meeting. For specific questions about the application process, email Genevieve Scholl at gscholl@portofcascadelocks.gov.
