Summer is waning, which means that The Dalles Cascade Singers break is over soon, and we will be starting back up with rehearsals for our fall and winter choir events. Therefore, we are extending an invitation to support the second half of your community choir season by joining us as a singer, an audience member, and/or patron of the arts.
The Dalles Cascade Singers is a true community choir in that we invite and welcome anyone who wants to sing. (Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult or have written parental consent to join.) Participation in the choir is free, and you are not required to be proficient in reading music. Also, if you do not feel like singing, we always have tasks that you can help with.
Rehearsals, led by Music Director Paul Viemeister, start back up on the second Monday in September (Sept. 8 at 7 p.m.) at Sawyer Hall in the basement of Zion Lutheran Church, 10th and Union streets.
The remainder of the 2025 season starts with a concert of Cascade Singers “Favorites” the first weekend in November. The season ends with a concert of secular Christmas music the second weekend in December. Both concerts feature soloists from the choir as well as some piano “interludes.”
The first weekend in December will feature two performances of Handel’s Christmas Messiah led by guest conductor Colin Shepherd from Portland. This will be the third annual presentation featuring guest choristers, soloists, and orchestra. The first (Saturday afternoon) performance will feature choruses (with some solos) accompanied by the Zion Phelps-d’Autremont organ. The second (Sunday afternoon) performance will include the entire Christmas section as well as some additional selections, accompanied by organ and orchestra. The Cascade Singers welcome guest singers to participate in this spectacular event.
